Fearless and Focused Neston Football Team Win Close Fought Tournament!!!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A fantastic well done to our football team: Alfie, Olivia, Erika and Charlotte of Maple Class and Max, Harry, Fin, Jack G and co-captains, Jack L and Charlie of Beech Class! They played 6 matches against the other schools in our cluster winning 4 and drawing 2. They worked brilliantly as a team, led ably by their captains, and demonstrated resilience and determination as the rain poured down and they faced increasingly challenging teams, who really tested their stamina. I was very proud of all of the team, each and every one who gave their all!

Many thanks to their loyal parent supporters, who not only transported them to the event but who also braved the inclement weather for two and a half long hours.

Golf festival kicks off cluster event timetable!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A very well done to Oscar, Harry and Evie from Chestnut and to Jack L, Frank, Toby and Amber M of Beech for representing Neston School at the first sport cluster event of the year - a golf taster session led by Chippenham Golf Club. They learned how to use a putter and aimed for targets. They also used a wedge club to chip the ball into a hole. Everyone had a great time!

Many thanks to Mrs Monelle for accompanying our golfers to the event and to the parents for transporting and supporting!

Y6 cricket team win cup at cluster event!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Congratulations to Frankie, Georgie, Freya, Archie, Emily, Harry, Jocelyn, Ollie, Elsie and Seb who competed against Colerne and Regis at Corsham Cricket Ground on Thursday and came away with the cup! Mrs Monelle, who accompanied the team to the event, said they all played magnificently as a team and benefited from competing against other teams. She could see an improvement in their play from the outset of the tournament to the end! Thank you to Mrs Monelle for being there and to all of the parents who provided transport and support!

Y4 Quadkids are first team to compete at an inter-school competition in 2021!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A big well done to Eva, Lauren, Edie, Bella, Bonnie, Alfie, Jack G, Fraser, Archie and Rowan, who represented Neston School at a Quadkids (athletics) event at Biddestone Sports Ground last Thursday. They ran a 50m sprint, did a standing long jump and a ‘javelin’ (vortex ball) throw, ran a 400m and did a team relay race too! They were competing against 7 other schools - 80 children in total! Our top point scorer was Jack G who came 15th overall! Fraser was 18th, which is also very impressive. Our top girl was Eva, who was the 6th top scoring girl and 35th overall while Bella and Bonnie tied as 11th in the girls and 46th overall! The children all tried their best at all events and were very supportive of our two athletes who were carrying injuries.

School Games Day a great success despite changeable weather!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to all of the staff, children and Mr John Andrews for a great return to our annual School Games Day! With the exception of (sadly) no spectators, the day progressed as usual with Willow, Oak and Silver Birch participating in their events in the morning and Hazel, Chestnut, Maple and Beech doing theirs in the afternoon. All of Beech Class, whether they were part of the School Games Crew or not, took on roles to support the adults in charge and they were soundly commended by all of the staff. Mr Andrews took the time, as he does every year, to come and quality control Mrs Evans’ scoring. The final results have yet to be tabulated because the final two events: KS2 egg and spoon and tug of war still need to take place (date tbc). We will also include the points gained by the KS2 children in their 600m run which took place on a very wet and windy afternoon the week before School Games Day. The top finishers in the Upper KS2 race and the Lower KS2 race are attached. It’s interesting to see how many siblings made it into the top 20!

Ursa wins the House Football Competition!!!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A very well done to all of our KS2 house football teams for a brilliant competition. All of the teachers and Mrs Long, our School Sports Coordinator, were very impressed by how hard everyone tried at the football and at being great team players. Phoenix won the Y3 competition, Aquila won the Y6 competition but Ursa is the overall competition winner for winning both the Y4 and the Y5 competitions. It wasn’t easy to choose the team with the best fair play - we saw a lot children making an effort to ensure that everyone was enjoying the experience by being positive and supportive - but in the end, we all agreed that Delphinus should be the winners of the fair play recognition!

Thank you to all of the captains, the teachers and most of all, Mrs Long, for making this one of our best intra-KS2 competitions ever!

Hockey team embodies the Neston Promise!

Added on by Kate Sims.

We’re extremely proud of our hockey team who competed at the Level 2 play offs in Devizes yesterday. They didn’t give up through all 7 of their gruelling matches and stuck together as a team. Max and Chloe were super leaders in the run up to the play offs - sorting the letters, a practice match, kit and equipment - and at the qualifying event and the play offs. Well done to Jocelyn, Leo, Chloe and Max for each having a go in goal despite not having had practise ahead of time with the kit. Special mention to Oliver, Jocelyn and Chloe for being tenacious attackers in the face of strong opposition.

A big thank you to all the parents who provided lifts and support for the team, in particular to Izzy’s mum and Harry’s dad, who were indispensable goal keeper kit technicians!

Last but not least, many thanks to Mrs Eggleton, who ably accompanied the team to the event, helped them stay strong and focussed throughout, fed back in detail and took a great photo!

Neston Swim Team gain silver medals at cluster gala!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to our Y5/6 swim team (Max, Leo, Charlotte, Darcey, Emily, Freya, Josh and Harry) who all swam in at least two races against other schools in our cluster and came out in second place overall!

A big thank you to Neston mums, dads and grandparents, who came out in droves to support!

Neston hockey team wins Level 2 event for 2nd year in a row!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to the Neston hockey team (Chloe D, Max, Oliver A, Izzy, Leo, Josie, Jocelyn and Harry), who have triumphed at the Level 2 cluster event! The captains, Chloe and Max, did a great job of organising the team so that the more experienced players could support the less experienced ones. Izzy was a great help with sorting the kit and, as ever, a big thank you to Mrs Eggleton (in particular for her fantastic team photo) and to the parents who provided transport and who came along to support!

Neston netballers make us proud!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Last week our netball team competed in 6 matches against other schools in the cluster. They lost the first 4 matches but then hit their stride and won the last two emphatically. Mrs Eggleton said that our team was praised by staff from other schools for knowing the rules so well and sticking to them - thanks to Miss Hunter for preparing the girls well in PE netball sessions! All the squad (Chloe D, Ellie, Darcey, Frankie, Jocelyn, Sophie, Harriet, Josie and Sienna) did Neston proud. Special mention goes to: our captains Ellie and Darcey for organising the teams for each game; to Darcey for reading the game, agility and shooting skills; to Choe for excellent positioning, shooting and dogged determination; to Jocelyn for volunteering to play for another team that was short on players and to Sophie for being drafted in at the last minute!

As ever, a huge thank you to Mrs Eggleton for accompanying the team to the event and to parents and carers for sorting lifts for everyone!

Aquila wins KS2 house football competition!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Aquila for winning the most matches (and scoring the most goals) in our competition on Thursday. There were some super saves, some accurate passing and some great goals from all of the teams. The Junior and the Senior captains did a fantastic job at sorting attacking and defending positions and at ensuring that everybody had at least 50% of the available playing time. There was a lot of terrific team spirit and ‘sportspersonship’ on display but the top team in this respect was Phoenix - fantastic!!!

Neston team competes at Mid-Wilts Primary Schools football play offs

Added on by Kate Sims.

A big well done to our football team, very ably led by captains Charlotte and Max, who competed at the Mid-Wilts Primary Schools football play offs on Friday. They played 6 matches, were outshone in 5 and drew 1 but maintained their team spirit and resilience throughout! Many thanks also to Mrs Eggleton, who accompanied our stalwart squad, and to the parents, who made it possible for the children to get to and from the event!

Brilliant biathletes compete at Bath University!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Darcey, Oscar, Sophie, Theo, Leo, Molly, Charlotte and Mia who all competed in a biathlon organised by Prior Park School. They had to run 800m and swim 1 length of the Olympic-sized pool (50m)!. The U12 team met Joe Choong, a modern pentathlete, who has been selected for the Tokyo Olympics. Oscar was proud of himself because he used the diving blocks for the first time when he was warming up for the race. All of our biathletes were wearing matching red vests with Neston emblazoned on the back in rainbow hues - many thanks to Ms Pardoe for sorting this kit for our team. Darcey said, “The vests made us feel like professional athletes!” I think that all the adults who went along to support our team would concur that everyone tried their best at this big event and should be very proud of themselves. Many thanks to all the parents who made it possible for our athletes to attend this event - hopefully some of them may even qualify for the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships (like Darcey, Billy and Molly did last year)!

School Games Mixed Cricket Tournament Triumph!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Captains Isla and Theo and their Y6 team of Keira, Chloe D, Molly, Max, Reegan and Leo for coming second in a Level 2 competition at the Dome in Chippenham! One of the highlights of the afternoon was getting to hold the actual (silver and gold and very heavy) Cricket World Cup Trophy!!! Many thanks to Mrs Graham for accompanying the team and, as always, to the parents who took the time to help transport the team - without you, these events wouldn’t be possible!

More School Games Participation - this time, Orienteering!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Charlotte, Theo, Sophie and Reegan, who made up our orienteering team for 2019. Led by Ken Stimson of North Wiltshire Orienteers, they raced against teams from other schools in a course all around the grounds of Corsham School and then did a relay event using the latest electronic equipment.

Super start to the School Games year!!!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Congratulations to the Y5/6 Neston football team who played in a series of matches against the other schools in our cluster and won the whole competition. Well done to their co captains Max and Charlotte who organised the team from tactics to kit! Many thanks to the indispensable Mrs Eggleton for accompanying the team to the event and to the parents who helped with lifts and cheered everyone on.

Neston Lacrosse Team win tournament at Colerne School!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to our Y5/6 lacrosse team who built on our second place position at last year’s lacrosse festival to take the trophy this year! Well done to our co-captains James P and William who did a great job of leading their hardworking, resilient team in all 5 of their matches. Well done also to Erin Hunter, our Up and Under coach for her lacrosse coaching! Many thanks to our supporters/transport team/hot tea providers!

Neston Tennis Teams come 3rd and 6th in competition!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to our A and B tennis teams who played 5 or 6 matches each against other schools in our cluster at Biddestone Tennis Club last week. The focus was on learning to score our own matches and on serving. Everyone showed excellent team spirit and the less experienced players in particular made great progress with their tennis!

The School Games Crew pull off another successful school competition!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A big thank you to all of the School Games Crew for helping to organise and to lead our intra-KS2 tag rugby competition. There were junior and senior team captains and lines people. We also had experienced players from Maple Class supporting Chestnut Class in a practise session. A super well done to Team Delphinus, who won 4 of the six matches that they played against Phoenix, Ursa and Aquila! The other teams were all very evenly matched - winning 2 matches each. The team with the best sportspersonship was Aquila - super!
