Important Message for Keyworker Parents - 5th January 2021

Added on by School Administrator.

Dear Parents / Carers

We are now putting together the class "Bubble" timetables and need to know which keyworker children will be attending school for the rest of this week and w/c 11th January 2021.

If you are a critical key worker and require a school place for your child as there is no one at home to look after him/her, then please let us know the days this week and next week you will be sending in your child - even if you have told us previously.

If these days are the same each week, please could you also let us know.

In order that we can prepare the "Bubble" timetables, we would be grateful if you could please respond ASAP and no  later than 9am Wednesday 6th January on admin@neston.wilts.sch.uk

The school kitchen will be closed from Wednesday 6th January so please send your child in with a packed lunch from home.

Children are expected to wear their school uniform in school.

There are just a few finer touches to our plans I need to highlight which are recommendations from Public Health and the DFE.

  • Please provide your child with a packed lunch in a plastic lunch box (easy to wipe)

  • Please ensure that the children have all the cutlery they need e.g. spoons for yogurts

  • Children will bring home their own packed lunch wrappers

  • Please wash your child’s clothes each day

  • Please ensure your child has a warm coat

  • Please don’t allow your child to bring in items from home other than lunches; we will provide the rest

  • Parents will not be allowed onto the school site, and a member of school staff will collect your child from the side gate and drop them off at the end of school

  • If your child is ill, please do not send him/her into school.

Please also check our news page on the website where updates will also be posted: http://nestonprimary.co.uk/journal

Thank you for your support during this time and your understanding as to what has been an enormous task. Once again, the whole Neston Team have been incredible in making sure that the school is as safe as it can be and that we are all ready for action.

Kind regards

Ursa wins the House Football Competition!!!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A very well done to all of our KS2 house football teams for a brilliant competition. All of the teachers and Mrs Long, our School Sports Coordinator, were very impressed by how hard everyone tried at the football and at being great team players. Phoenix won the Y3 competition, Aquila won the Y6 competition but Ursa is the overall competition winner for winning both the Y4 and the Y5 competitions. It wasn’t easy to choose the team with the best fair play - we saw a lot children making an effort to ensure that everyone was enjoying the experience by being positive and supportive - but in the end, we all agreed that Delphinus should be the winners of the fair play recognition!

Thank you to all of the captains, the teachers and most of all, Mrs Long, for making this one of our best intra-KS2 competitions ever!

Daily fitness at five o'clock from the Youth Sport Trust!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Every weekday at 5pm, starting on Thurdsay 12.11.20 until the end of term (18 December), the Youth Sport Trust will be running a 30-minute online After School Sport Club for all children and young people to do some sport, develop skills and, most importantly, have fun!

Many of our children are missing out on their usual sport clubs. The Youth Sport Trust’s After School Sport Club is here to help all young people feel part of a club that helps them develop skills and learn something new. It is about much more than physical fitness. It will help children develop physical literacy and confidence to try lots of new sports, helping all children find a sport for them.

The After School Sport Club will be led by Athlete Mentors from different backgrounds, abilities and sports. The first session will take place on Thursday 12 November at 5pm, with the world’s number one female inline skater and ten times British Champion, Jenna Downing.

Join in with the live broadcast for free on the YST YouTube channel -(https://www.youtube.com/user/YouthSportTrust).

The different daily themes are below:

  • Adventure Monday – This might involve getting children to do floor, wall climbing and map reading all within their living room

  • Tuesday Play – Imaginative play utilising resources in the house to create games and activities to get active

  • Wild Wednesday – Some high tempo competitive activities involving personal challenges

  • Thinking Thursday – Introducing cognitive challenges for children through movement. Active noughts and crosses and introducing an element of competition – whether that be against themselves, the clock, their siblings or remotely with friends

  • Fun Friday – A chance for children to let loose and have some fun. Dancing and doing what makes them feel good.

I’m looking forward to hearing from those who get involved!

The Great Neston Frundraiser poster.png

Hello from the FoNS Team.

Today sees the start of our Great Neston fRUNdraiser, our family running event.  We hope as many of you as possible will get behind this event, pop your trainers/wellies on and join in running/walking as far as you can, to represent your child's house.

What is it all about?

The event will take place from today (Monday 19th) throughout half term, until Sunday 1 November.  Get your whole family on board - walk, run, hop, skip - however you would like to cover the distance (on foot!). Then simply add your family or individual distance to the shared spreadsheet (details below) and wait to see which house will triumph!  Aquilla (Yellow), Ursa (Green) , Phoenix (Red) or Delphinus (Blue)?!

Each participant will receive a star pin-badge and some wonderful prizes have been donated by local company, Tinc stationery.  Prizes will be awarded for:

  1. Best running selfie (share your photos on the FoNS FB this page or email to your class rep)

  2. Run/walk in the most unusual location (share your photos on FoNS FB page or email to your class rep)

  3. Best fancy dress- can you show which house you are representing? (share your photos on FoNS FB page or email your class rep)

  4. Most distance covered but a student of Neston school - sorry parents!!! You are encouraged to contribute to the house totals but this prize is for children only!!

Suggested Entry Fee - £10 per household, £3 for an individual.

Sponsorship/Donations from friends and family are also very much welcomed, but not necessary to enter.

How to Enter

  1. Enter your details on the shared spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19iE3Y26GL7e2GERgoox3nMj0Hfb0n8T5wvkF179iDQE/edit?usp=sharing

This is also where you will then enter your distances.  You can either do this each time you walk/run, daily or in one lump sum at the end.

  1. Pay your entry fee here:  https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fonsfrundraiser?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=socpledgedesktop&utm_content=fonsfrundraiser&utm_campaign=post-pledge-desktop&utm_term=p2yj5D42G

We welcome any sponsorship, please can all potential sponsors be directed to the justgiving site, as used above for entry fees.

How to record your distance

We want the event to be inclusive and therefore do not require strava evidence - although you are welcome to use strava if you like!  You can either run/walk one of the suggested routes that start from school (these will be published on the FoNS Facebook page) or you can use this free website to plot your own routes and it will tell you your distance. Simple! ????

Scores

So that everyone can keep an eye on which house is leading and encourage some healthy inter-house competition, total distances will be updated daily on the FoNS noticeboard in the school carpark, throughout half term.  Maybe you can try and incorporate a walk/run past the school to check out the leaderboard!   They will also be published daily on the FoNS facebook page.  Final house distances will be announced on the first Monday back at school after half-term and a cup will be awarded to the winning house!????

Any queries at all please get in touch with your FoNS class rep.  Happy walking/running.  ????????????

Hockey team embodies the Neston Promise!

Added on by Kate Sims.

We’re extremely proud of our hockey team who competed at the Level 2 play offs in Devizes yesterday. They didn’t give up through all 7 of their gruelling matches and stuck together as a team. Max and Chloe were super leaders in the run up to the play offs - sorting the letters, a practice match, kit and equipment - and at the qualifying event and the play offs. Well done to Jocelyn, Leo, Chloe and Max for each having a go in goal despite not having had practise ahead of time with the kit. Special mention to Oliver, Jocelyn and Chloe for being tenacious attackers in the face of strong opposition.

A big thank you to all the parents who provided lifts and support for the team, in particular to Izzy’s mum and Harry’s dad, who were indispensable goal keeper kit technicians!

Last but not least, many thanks to Mrs Eggleton, who ably accompanied the team to the event, helped them stay strong and focussed throughout, fed back in detail and took a great photo!

Please be assured that whilst every effort will be made to keep the school open, the safety of students and staff is of paramount importance.

Please ensure your mobile telephone numbers and email address is up-to-date on our school records.

Neston Swim Team gain silver medals at cluster gala!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to our Y5/6 swim team (Max, Leo, Charlotte, Darcey, Emily, Freya, Josh and Harry) who all swam in at least two races against other schools in our cluster and came out in second place overall!

A big thank you to Neston mums, dads and grandparents, who came out in droves to support!

Neston hockey team wins Level 2 event for 2nd year in a row!

Added on by Kate Sims.

A super well done to the Neston hockey team (Chloe D, Max, Oliver A, Izzy, Leo, Josie, Jocelyn and Harry), who have triumphed at the Level 2 cluster event! The captains, Chloe and Max, did a great job of organising the team so that the more experienced players could support the less experienced ones. Izzy was a great help with sorting the kit and, as ever, a big thank you to Mrs Eggleton (in particular for her fantastic team photo) and to the parents who provided transport and who came along to support!

Korky Paul, children's book illustrator, visits Neston School!

Added on by Kate Sims.

The week before last we were very lucky to have a visit from children’s book illustrator, Korky Paul! He spent time with all of our classes, telling stories and sharing techniques, while drawing a bespoke Winnie and Wilbur picture for each class! Our Korky Paul drawings will be framed and displayed in our library!

Neston netballers make us proud!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Last week our netball team competed in 6 matches against other schools in the cluster. They lost the first 4 matches but then hit their stride and won the last two emphatically. Mrs Eggleton said that our team was praised by staff from other schools for knowing the rules so well and sticking to them - thanks to Miss Hunter for preparing the girls well in PE netball sessions! All the squad (Chloe D, Ellie, Darcey, Frankie, Jocelyn, Sophie, Harriet, Josie and Sienna) did Neston proud. Special mention goes to: our captains Ellie and Darcey for organising the teams for each game; to Darcey for reading the game, agility and shooting skills; to Choe for excellent positioning, shooting and dogged determination; to Jocelyn for volunteering to play for another team that was short on players and to Sophie for being drafted in at the last minute!

As ever, a huge thank you to Mrs Eggleton for accompanying the team to the event and to parents and carers for sorting lifts for everyone!

Aquila wins KS2 house football competition!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Aquila for winning the most matches (and scoring the most goals) in our competition on Thursday. There were some super saves, some accurate passing and some great goals from all of the teams. The Junior and the Senior captains did a fantastic job at sorting attacking and defending positions and at ensuring that everybody had at least 50% of the available playing time. There was a lot of terrific team spirit and ‘sportspersonship’ on display but the top team in this respect was Phoenix - fantastic!!!

Neston team competes at Mid-Wilts Primary Schools football play offs

Added on by Kate Sims.

A big well done to our football team, very ably led by captains Charlotte and Max, who competed at the Mid-Wilts Primary Schools football play offs on Friday. They played 6 matches, were outshone in 5 and drew 1 but maintained their team spirit and resilience throughout! Many thanks also to Mrs Eggleton, who accompanied our stalwart squad, and to the parents, who made it possible for the children to get to and from the event!

Brilliant biathletes compete at Bath University!

Added on by Kate Sims.

Well done to Darcey, Oscar, Sophie, Theo, Leo, Molly, Charlotte and Mia who all competed in a biathlon organised by Prior Park School. They had to run 800m and swim 1 length of the Olympic-sized pool (50m)!. The U12 team met Joe Choong, a modern pentathlete, who has been selected for the Tokyo Olympics. Oscar was proud of himself because he used the diving blocks for the first time when he was warming up for the race. All of our biathletes were wearing matching red vests with Neston emblazoned on the back in rainbow hues - many thanks to Ms Pardoe for sorting this kit for our team. Darcey said, “The vests made us feel like professional athletes!” I think that all the adults who went along to support our team would concur that everyone tried their best at this big event and should be very proud of themselves. Many thanks to all the parents who made it possible for our athletes to attend this event - hopefully some of them may even qualify for the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships (like Darcey, Billy and Molly did last year)!
