Welcome to Silver Birch
How Do We Learn In Oak Class?
By taking risks – we all learn by making mistakes, trying hard and keeping going even when things are challenging. Help us foster the “I can’t do it … yet” attitude by celebrating our efforts.
How can I help my child in Silver Birch class?
Read together: Listen to your child read, read to them, read with them, share books or magazines, read recipes or directions and rules for games – if your child reads with an adult outside of school and at least five times in a week, of their school book, they will earn house points.
Home spellings: Starting in term 2 we will be sending spellings home weekly and assessing them on a Friday as part of a ‘quiz’. These words can be accessed on spelling shed as well as being emailed out from the office. Please support your child to learn these. Write them in sentences, play snow man, re-write them in special pens, go on a word hunt. If you need any other ideas, please come and see us 😊
TT rockstars- please practise number bonds to 10 and 20. Multiplication using 2,3,5,10s and by starting with counting songs or chanting forwards and backwards before moving onto number sentences e.g. 2 x 5 =
Support independence: by naming all of your child’s belongings. We are enjoying using our Wellington boots to make the most of "discovering" all the lovely mud!
Develop confidence in learning: ask your child what they are really proud of today, what they have tried really hard at and what they have enjoyed at school. Show them that you value their busy day just as much as school staff 😊
Capture questions, ideas and achievements: Reading/posing by a silver Birch tree is something we always love to see and we can add to our reading wall. Perhaps they can learn a new fact about one of these trees too?
