Sex Education

Health, moral and sex education is an integral part of the curriculum throughout the school and is designed to support information provided to the children by their families at home. The aim is to prepare pupils to cope with the physical and emotional challenges of growing up and the capacity of individual pupils to absorb the information.

During the summer term, every two years, pupils in Year 5 and 6 will receive lessons from the school nurse on puberty and sex education. Parents are invited into the school beforehand to view the videos that will be used. Parents will have the opportunity to ask any questions and may withdraw their children from the lessons if they so wish. All questions relating to sexual matters will be dealt with in a caring, sensitive, sympathetic way whenever they should arise.
