Ofsted Report 2018

Our inspection was a full and thorough inspection and we are very proud and delighted that our school remains "Good".

During the inspection, inspectors noted that there was a lovely atmosphere to the school where "staff look after the pupils very well and keep them safe". The team also reported that "the quality of teaching is good. Teachers plan interesting lessons across a wide and balanced curriculum".

The inspectors discussed the performance data that is published by the school and also the day to day data tracking system. We discussed how data fluctuates depending on the academic and emotional needs of specific cohorts. The inspectors recognised the steps the school had taken to ensure rapid and accelerated progress of each cohort and how it had addressed specific needs of particular groups of children.

Our accurate school self –evaluation based on rigorous data analysis identified the need to accelerate the progress of the higher achieving learners so we are clearly on the right track. Our Maths – No Problem work is already helping to achieve this and the inspectors recognised that it needs some time to embed. The inspectors commented on the strength of the leadership team because the areas for further development have already been identified and implemented.

We want to thank the parents and staff who gave such overwhelming positive feedback on all aspects of the school both through Parent View and directly to the inspectors. The children were amazing - speaking to inspectors with real passion about our school and all that it stands for. I would also like to thank the Governors for their time and commitment to the school - their dedication and hard work has enabled the school to continue to be "Good".

I am very privileged and lucky to work with such a dedicated and strong team who work tirelessly to ensure that the children are successful and enjoy their time at school. We will continue to provide as many "Learning Adventures" as we can muster in order to provide all our children with a fabulous standard of education.

Book Fair

This year the Book Fair will be held in the school hall on Tuesday 13th March.  Further details will follow.

Change in Lunch Menu

Due to a delivery issue, the following two Monday lunch time menus will be served as follows:-

Monday 26th February will be Macaroni Cheese

Monday 5th March will be Sausage and Mash

World Book Day

To celebrate "World Book Day" the children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Thursday 1st March.

Neston Aquathon Team comes first!

Congratulations to Tom, Thomas, Willow and Maddy who took part in an aquathon (swim and run) at Springfield Campus just before half term. They were competing against athletes from other schools in our cluster and were very proud to come first! They are great examples of the benefits of an active lifestyle!

Hot off the Press - Neston Hockey Team qualifies for play offs

Well done to the Neston Hockey team (Emily, Ciara, Lauren, Lenny, Maddy, George D, Eddie, Seth, Izzy and Alyssa) who came second in our cluster festival (losing out to Colerne only on goal difference) and who have made it through to the play offs for the county event. Our top goal scorer was Lauren, with Emily and Lenny also sending the ball to the back of the net! All of the players improved their skills during the matches, particularly with making themselves available when we were attacking and marking the opposition when we were defending. Good luck for the 2nd of March at Devizes School.

Safer Internet Day - 6th February 2018 - Year 4

To mark Safer Internet Day, which takes place on 6th February 2018, we are pleased to be able welcome the Corsham Institute who will be discussing with the children in Chestnut how we can make the internet a safer place. 

As part of the visit the children are going to be filmed.

Positive Parenting Course

Wiltshire Council will be running a Positive Parenting course from the 5th February at the Corsham Regis Primary school.

The course aims to support parents and carers to make small changes that will have a positive long term impact on their child's behaviour.  Parents are introduced to a range of strategies to enhance parent-child relationships and manage children's behaviour.

Parents can refer themselves using the referral form or turn up on the day and register for the group.

Red Team wins KS2 football tournament while Green Team gets the fair play award!

On the last Thursday of term, everyone from Year 3 up to Year 6 played in 8 a-side matches for their sports team (Red, Yellow, Blue and Green). It was wonderful to see our experienced footballers, who play for local clubs, supporting our players who are less experienced at playing football competitively. Last year, Blue Team won the cup but this year some excellent team work (lots of passing and communicating) took Red Team to the top in our 2017 intra-KS2 tournament - Go Reds! There was a lot of fair play in evidence from all the teams (well done everyone) but the team that shone the brightest in this respect was the Green Team! Many thanks to our School Games Crew for organising this exciting event and to the adults who helped out too despite many being under the weather.

Healthy Me

Healthy Me is primarily about having fun! It is a free, 10 week child weight management programme for 7-11 year olds and their families. At Healthy Me they educate families about nutrition and physical activity, helping you to make small positive lifestyle changes to become healthier, and reach and maintain a healthy weight. They cover topics such as 5 a day, sugars vs fats, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, the importance of hydration, shopping on a budget, making healthy packed lunches and many more. All of this is backed up with fun physical activity such as a supermarket sweep hunt fresh fruit and veg!

Families receive support over the 10 week programme and beyond through keeping in touch/fun days where they can monitor your progress and ensure you continue to make the positive changes you have made during the course.

The new course dates are as follows:

Chippenham - The Olympiad - Tuesdays 4.15pm-5.45pm commences 9th January
Trowbridge - Trowbridge Sport Centre - Wednesday's 4.30pm-6.00pm commences 10th January
Salisbury - Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre - Wednesday's 4.30pm-6.00pm commences 10th January
Devizes - Devizes Leisure Centre - Thursday's 4.15pm - 5.45pm commences 11th January

Years 3 & 4 Christmas Party

Monday 18th December

Please come into school wearing your own clothes.  This can include a Christmas jumper and a hat or other Christmas themed headwear.

Please bring a donation of £1 to cover the cost of party food.  We have found it is easier to ask for money and do one big shop for both classes, rather than ask for food and end up with 20 packs of sausage rolls!

Intra KS2 Football Tournament

Thursday 14th December - Please bring a sports day coloured top to wear during the KS2 (years 3, 4, 5 & 6) football tournament.  They can be a top that you wear over skins / base layer (lycra type tops) or long-sleeved tops.  It can have logos or characters on it as long as it is mainly the colour of your sports day team.

Stackpole Day 4

The wind was still blowing on Thursday morning but there was a hint of blue behind the thin cloud cover. We were all excited to head off together in the mini buses for Freshwater West and a beach clean (part of the work we're doing to achieve our John Muir awards). At first glance, the beach looked pristine, covered in sandstone pebbles of beautiful shades of red, purple and orange and dotted about with piles of seaweed but, on closer inspection, we could all see that plastic was in danger of taking over. We found plastic bottle tops and plastic bottles and plastic rope and plastic packaging and old plastic boots and plastic fragments - so much plastic rubbish that we filled an entire pick-up truck with it. It was very satisfying work but we only cleared a fraction of the beach and, as Evie pointed out, "This is only one beach and look how much plastic is on it!" We all came away thinking about how to reduce our plastic consumption.

After lunch, the Coots went off rockpooling with Matt while the Swans canoed on the moat around Pembroke Castle. It was exciting to paddle into tunnels that have been around since King Henry VII's day (there were stalactites hanging down in them)! Mrs Phillips was in charge of two canoes rafted together because of the wind and led her team to victory in the final race of the day where we all had to stand up to paddle around a buoy. Ben and Anne Marie declared that we were incredibly fast at loading the canoes back onto the trailer. It was a cold but fun afternoon!

We were all starving for our chicken curry dinner, which was followed by a rousing game of dodgeball with Ben.
